I love your deconstruction of this version! I’ve always liked this song. I first saw Betty Buckley sing this in the Central Park production back in the day, and then in the Broadway production, and of course I have the cast recording. It seems I really liked Drood, and also Betty Buckley (also Cleo Laine)….
