This is when James was rehearsing for a non-equity production of WEST SIDE STORY back in 1993.  I’m obsessed with how great he sounds.  AND how devastating the background vocals are at the beginning.

  4. As a first soprano, I am always very envious of the lower ranges male voices can reach. This is one of the loveliest songs ever and James did a super job. He should do a cabaret act or something, seriously. Snaps for James and CUT on those background dudes. Gah.

  5. In my head, I picture this entire scene with a one of those background vocalists being catty as James sings.

“Whatever with Miss Thang over there getting the role of Tony. I can totally out-sing him. Oh, my cue is coming up…”

*sung (if that’s what you can call it)*
    “MARIA…” <– Epic fail.

Kudos to James on his rendition here!

  6. Most devistating background vocals ever. They should be kicked. hard.

    But James, he was excellent

  7. AHAHA! I laughed out LOUD at the beginning, you’re so incredibly right about the background vocals. And about him sounding fabulous for the rest of the song.
