Here’s a little history that someone posted on Broadway World

I work at the Richard Rodgers, here’s the short version of the story: Lin was a fan of this kid’s videos on Youtube, and posted supportive comments on his Youtube page. The kid’s mom emailed Lin, letting him know that they would be in town to see Heights for Thanksgiving week. So Lin invited them to the theater, and they filmed this between shows last Saturday before Thanksgiving. He bought everyone in the cast and crew dinner from Carmine’s–it was delicious, and Nicholas and his mom stuck around and saw the show Saturday evening. That’s why everyone’s in street clothes in the video–it was extracurricular, and totally worth it. Happy holiday

Of course, watching this, I had tears streaming down my face

  3. Seth, thank you so much for posting this. This is an incredibly grand and powerful gesture. I want to be the kind of class Broadway star that Lin Manuel is. I really hope to get there one day. Thank you. (Also: you fabulous!)

  7. Oh, great. Now I have people walking by saying, “What’s the matter? What happened?” I need to stick to the Seth-and-Jack videos; those never make me weep at my desk.

  9. Nicholas’ mom here! What the cast did for my son both onstage and off was absolutely amazing. The video only shows part of the story. The encouragement and support will travel with him forever. It was so beautiful!

  11. Just returned from Gypsy of the Year with my child who is currently privileged to be a broadway actor. After witnessing first hand, and explaining to my child the huge hearts and generosity of the Broadway community, both in their time, talent, fundraising and willingness to help others, watching this video did not surprise me in the least. It did however make me cry. Another immensely talented group of people took the time to give a child a gift I’m sure he will remember his entire life. Bravo.

  14. Wow! The generosity of the Broadway community is amazing. As an actor, I know what a sacrifice of time this took from each of the performers and their willingness to do this is overwhelming. But when you think of what this gave to the kid in the video it seems to be such a small sacrifice.

And what a talent he was. I hope this show runs long enough for him to take over the lead!
